Sorry if you already knew this, but it's quite useful, so I'm posting about it anyway. I've known about it for a while, but I've seen several instances in which people I was watching type could have taken advantage of it and didn't, so I assume it's not very well known.Ctrl + BackspaceIt deletes the entire word (until it hits whitespace) before the cursor. Useful for deleting stuff more quickly and also for reaching typos a few words back more quickly. There's also Ctrl + Left and Ctrl + Right to move one word left or right. For the Mac users (and Linux command line users) there's Ctrl + W, which does the same thing. But be careful Windows/Linux users -- that command closes the current tab in Firefox/IE.
